Almond blossom in Mallorca

Did you know that around this time of year, there is an event you can't miss?

From the end of January to the beginning of February, you have the opportunity to enjoy a real spectacle that nature offers us on the island: the almond blossom.

Thanks to the pleasant temperatures offered by our Mediterranean climate, this unique floral event comes early in the spring and captures the attention of Mallorcans and also of the tourists who visit us every year.

The almond tree is very important for the economy, as as well as being used for cosmetics, it is also very present in our gastronomy. One of the best known sweets is the traditional gatóThe main ingredient is almonds and it is typical in many restaurants on the island.

If you're more into fresh desserts, we recommend the delicious almond ice cream from Can Joan de S'Aigo, a legendary Mallorcan café that has been in business since 1700.

If you want to know the best places to see and photograph the almond trees and to spend a different day between your golf sessions, we leave you several places where you can enjoy them and make different routes by car, on foot or by bicycle:

  • The Serra de Tramuntana. One of the most visited tourist attractions and the main mountain range of the Balearic Islands. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 2010, and here you can enjoy a wide variety of fields full of almond trees and also enjoy an unforgettable day.
  • Binissalem to the Binigual llogaret. This route is ideal for getting lost and strolling along the secondary roads.
  • Llucmajor. It's a great place for a pleasant drive and a quiet stop to take your best photographs.
  • Manacor, Sant Llorenç or Son Servera. Here they celebrate the traditional Fira de la flor d'ametler (Flower Fair) (Almond Blossom Fair) on the first weekend of February. This is a traditional fair with a large number of stalls selling a wide variety of products made from almost the entire almond tree: its wood, fruit and leaves. During this fair you can also find samples of the materials used for harvesting and preparing almonds and enjoy live folk music.
  • The Raixa estate in the municipality of Bunyola. It is famous for its gardens that extend along the slope of sa Muntanyeta. It is currently used as a Visitor and Interpretation Centre and admission is completely free.
  • In Palma we can also see them in Es Secar de la Real. Just behind the monastery, where there is an extensive field.
